Arista CEO Jayshree Ullal next guest for Tom Mendoza Presents

Jayshree Ullal, president and CEO of computer networking company Arista Networks, will be the next guest for the Tom Mendoza Presents series presented by the University of Notre Dame. Ullal’s conversation with host Tom Mendoza, former president and vice chairman of the pioneering data management company NetApp, will take place online at 1 p.m. EST on Nov. 6. Ullal, named to Barron’s 2018 “World’s Best CEOs” and Fortune’s 2019 “Top 20 Business Persons, is credited for Arista’s business and strategic leadership in cloud networking. She led the company to a historic and successful IPO in June 2014 and its entry into the S&P 500 in 2018. Forbes recently ranked Ullal as No. 16 on its 2020 list of “America’s Richest Self-Made Women,” a ranking of the country’s most successful women entrepreneurs and executives. Born in London and raised in India, she earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from San Francisco State University and a master’s degree in engineering management from Santa Clara University.

Tom Mendoza Presents features Mendoza’s conversations with top business executives about their journey to success, what they learned along the way in forging great companies that have positive social and environmental impact as well as financial performance, and their advice to students and professionals as they build their careers. The format of the discussion includes 30-40 minutes of one-on-one interview between Mendoza and the speaker followed by 20 minutes of audience Q&A. Audience members can submit their questions in the chat function. During this academic year, the events will be held as webinars facilitated by ND Studios. The series previously featured Carl M. Eschenbach, a partner at Sequoia Capital. Prior to joining Sequoia in 2016, Eschenbach spent three decades in the technology industry, including 14 years at the Palo Alto-based cloud computing company VMWare, which he helped grow from $31 million to $7 billion in annual revenue and from 200 employees to 20,000. At Sequoia he led investment in a number of highly successful young companies including Zoom, UiPath, Workday and Snowflake. During his wide-ranging conversation with Mendoza, Eschenbach discussed growing up in a working-class Pennsylvania family, what he learned as a collegiate wrestler, and how to spot the next big tech startup.
