Recently, Notre Dame University launched its first “eReader class,” where students not only use Apple’s iPad to download and read the required textbooks for the class, they also use the iPad almost exclusively to communicate, share documents, create timelines, and produce sketches for projects within the class. In a much different approach to Darr’s, Notre Dame is choosing to use technology almost exclusively. “The world of higher education today demands seamless touch points connecting teaching, learning, research, engagement, service and personal activities,” Ron Kraemer, Notre Dame’s vice president of information technology and chief information officer told Notre Dame News. “Using the iPad in this course for both research and education will help us explore how we might enhance the education experience to better prepare our students as global citizens.”
