Yassah Lavelah: YALI Fellow

Yassah Lavelah faced a difficult choice as the Ebola crisis threatened her home in Liberia. With an offer to extend her stay in the U.S. for safety, she chose instead to return and support her community. As a nurse and co-founder of a maternity clinic, Lavelah is now working to rebuild trust among expectant mothers and advance plans for a new midwifery center, despite the challenges posed by the recent epidemic. The support of the Notre Dame community has played a crucial role in her efforts, helping to provide medical supplies and strengthen ties during this critical time.
