Editor's Letter

“I had heard of Andrew Daigneau weeks before I met him. And what I heard was a horrific story about a terrible motorcycle accident that occurred earlier in the summer that very nearly cost the honors student his life ... and ultimately, his right leg.

“I wasn’t prepared for the person who wheeled himself into my office suite in September, a mere three months since the accident. He looked...healthy. Upbeat. Cheerful.”

Through The Lens: St. Bakhita

Angst’s Innovation and Design Thinking class first started working with St. Bakhita in 2020. The school, located in the impoverished northern region of Uganda, opened in 2007 to help women rebuild their lives in the wake of tragic abductions by the LRA.

As part of its vocational offerings, St. Bakhita trains students in the finer skills of sewing and tailoring as an eventual career path. In the handmade clothes, bags and backpacks swirling with traditional African colors and patterns, Angst and her students saw an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the school.

The Gorilla Suit is a Classic

“The Great Gorilla/Banana Chase” has been the stuff of Mendoza College legend for 20 years, along with the professor behind the stunt. The basic script involves a gorilla walking into a room where 500 students are taking their first exam in an introductory finance course. A few minutes later, a gigantic banana saunters in.

What happens next? A merry chase around the classroom — and 500 amused students who at least momentarily can put aside their first-exam jitters.
